PETSCRIPTIONS - PET DESCRIPTIONS FOR ANIMAL ADOPTIONS

One of my most memorable volunteer experiences was at the Atlanta Humane Society - March 2014 to October 2017 (2259 hours). During that time, I wrote over a hundred creative ‘petscriptions’ to give homeless animals on the adoption floor a voice and an identity. Needless to say, their creative profiles did the trick and most were adopted the very next day! Here are some of them:

ZEUS

The God of Dogs! While Zeus definitely doesn’t strike down other dogs with his thunderbolt, he might prefer to be the only dog ruling his home. Other than these heavenly airs, Zeus is a pretty down-to-earth dog who loves to play and chase a tennis ball though you might have to teach him how to return it once he gets it. Being a young dog, he is blessed with abundant energy and can run like the wind! So if you are looking for an exercise partner, Zeus is it! But even Gods need to rest sometimes; he can sit by your feet quietly and enjoy some good loving and petting. Zeus feels it is below his divine dignity to chase and wrestle with other dogs in a common dog park so he would rather say hello to a dog or two on a private play date. He is also always ready to learn new things, which means he is the perfect candidate for some training lessons. So come on over to paradise all ye earthlings and meet Zeus, the God of dogs, the God of love and you might just find a match made in heaven!

XENA

Xena, the warrior princess, not!  Our kitty might look like a warrior with her unique black and orange markings and intense stare but truth be told, she is a sweet and gentle pussycat princess. She loves it when you scratch behind her ears and will twist and turn in every possible way to make it easier for you to do it and for her to get the best benefit. If you think Xena the real warrior princess can leap from one place to another, you should watch our Xena. Agile and active, this young cat can go places in a split second! She loves to battle with her teaser toy or jingly toy and she can be entertained for hours just chasing it. You can put her in your lap and she will stay put for a couple of minutes to enjoy her caresses but then will leave soon to set out on other adventures. If you are looking for a kitty who will add fun and happiness to your life, come on over and meet Xena and let her complete your family.

WILLIE

Willie’s face tells his story. He was caught red-handed or rather red-pawed lapping up milk from a bowl he wasn’t supposed to touch and that explains the milky mustache pattern on his face. Ok, we’re just kidding. That’s not his story but it’s a fun one. We do know that he came to us from another shelter in April and has been with us since. Though he gets along very well with his fellow roommates and is comfortable here, he would very much like to live in his own home with his own family. He is a sweet, curious cat who likes to stay up-to-date with what’s going on around him. Like, who is the new roomie? Is that a new toy? I wonder if that’s puppy flavor I smelled on that person’s hands? Willie knows that your fingers have magic and he will gladly let you work it on him as you pet his head and scratch his ears and tickle under his chin. On his play break, he likes to have fun with a dangle toy and he doesn’t mind sharing it with the other cats too. He is a happy-go-lucky kitty with no worries about a thing. If you think Willie would be a great addition to your family, come on over and have a cat chat with him.

WIZARD

Abracadabra cadabracadim, this Wizard will cast his spell and make you fall in love with him! Poof! Just like Harry Potter, this magical dog has grown up in a shelter and foster home where he has been practicing to be a mighty wizard until he finds his forever home. If you look closely, you will notice his enchanting blue eye which helps his see invisible things, buried dog bones and well-hidden treats. His easy-going and friendly personality charms every person and dog he meets. Like other regular dogs, he likes to play with his toys and chase a ball, but when you’re not looking, he sets off on adventures with pixies and gnomes. Wizard has cast a spell on himself which makes him irresistible. So everyone who meets him can’t help but shower him with lots of cuddles and snuggles and kisses. He knows his way with magic alright! The only thing he needs ‘human’ help for is with some leash training as he is a pretty strong dog. So if you are looking to transform your ordinary life into a magical one, come on over and meet Wizard, our blue-eyed boy. Just a wag of his magic tail and poof! He will soon have a place in your heart and home.

TIRAMISU

For all of you with a sweet tooth, we have got the perfect sweet treat for you. Tiramisu! He is not only just right for dessert but can be had before meals, during play time, tea time, nap time and every other time. You simply can’t get enough of him! He came to AHS with his sister from a previous situation where they were probably neglected with minimal human contact. Hence they were a little shy and nervous. But look at Tiramisu now! He has turned over a new leaf! He is bright and happy, eager to please, loves his hugs and kisses and will frolic with you in the play yard. He would love to learn how to play fetch and more new tricks. With a little bit of training, increased socialization and love, Tiramisu will show you what a sweetheart he can be. Get the family over and get a taste of some delightful, satisfying puppy love.

TINY

Err...that she isn’t at all. She is a tall, beautiful cat with a svelte figure and if there ever was a swimsuit model contest for cats, she would be a winner all the way! Besides her good looks, Tiny has a sweet personality to match. She will invite you over with her gorgeous eyes and then you can’t help but run your hands over her soft, luxurious fur while she purrs contentedly. If you want to play, she is game! She likes all her toys and loves to wrestle with her imaginary friends. But she does have real cat friends too. She is currently housed in a room with five cats and they get along splendidly. Moreover, she lived with another cat (Timberwolf) in her previous owner’s house and they are both here with us at AHS. In fact, if you’re looking for a Two Purrr One deal, you can take them both for the price of one! If not, Tiny doesn’t mind going home alone with you too! So come on over and check out this delightful kitty.

TIMBER WOLF

TIMBER!! Not an alert for a falling tree but an alert that you might fall in love! And why wouldn’t you? She is a sweet cat who makes a great snuggle buddy! She seems shy and cautious at first but put her in your lap and she will curl up and sit there till kingdom come! She enjoys it when you brush her fur out and when you keep your fingers working behind her ears and on the top of her head. If you stop, she will nudge your hand gently with her nose to go on. Despite her name, this one’s no wolf; she’s a real pussycat! Sweet and tender to the core! If you’re looking for a snuggle puss, come on over and take this lover girl home!

THOR

In Norse mythology, Thor is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning and storms! Our Thor is naughty but he definitely isn’t so bad! Thor has been unlucky in love as he got adopted twice and returned. What Thor needs is someone who is patient and can channelize his energy well so that he can be groomed into a super dog! A little bit of training and an obedience class or two are all it takes to teach him dog etiquette and he will get the picture. He is a very excited puppy when you take him out of his kennel but then, which puppy is not? Thor loves to have his toy (especially tennis balls) in his mouth for comfort. Once he has that, he will sit by your side or climb into your lap for some snuggling and cuddling and suddenly he is as gentle as a lamb. So don’t get fooled by first impressions; give him some time and he will reveal his true sweet self to you! Thor feels that he might be third time lucky so why don’t you get the family down to play fetch with him (he is a professional fetcher!) and see if he might be the dog you are looking for!

TAZZY

Short for Tasmanian Devil, Tazzy will win your heart with her antics. She sports a beautiful bulls-eye tabby pattern on her fur and has eyes that will make you melt. She is the leader of her litter; always the first to get into mischief while the others follow. She loves attention and will softly tap your leg to get it. When it’s nap time, she will curl up in your arms or lap and enjoy the petting and sweet caresses while gently patting your cheek with her soft paws. Tazzy and her four siblings came to AHS with their mama when they were just 4 weeks old and have been raised lovingly by their foster family. They love chasing laser lights, shoelaces, paper balls and jumping in and out of boxes. They are experts with their litter box, eat wet and dry food, take their medicines like champions and are quite calm when they have their claws trimmed and ears cleaned.  Pretty perfect in every way, don’t you think? Come on over then and see if Tazzy is the one for you!

FUZZY

Soft and fluffy as a cotton ball, Fuzzy will make the perfect cuddle buddy! He has pretty white fur all over but if you look closely you will see his naughty little secret. The end of his tail has a hint of orange tabby! So cute! He is the calmest kitten in his litter and is very observant.  Fuzzy and his four siblings came to AHS with their mama when they were just 4 weeks old and have been raised lovingly by their foster family. Come on over then and see if Fuzzy is the one for you!

OZZY

This orange tabby is a lover! Loves to cuddle, loves to kiss, loves to be petted, loves to play, loves his human! He looks at you with adoring eyes and is the happiest when you cradle him in your arms. He can jump to the highest heights and crawl through the tightest spaces, something like a super kitty. Ozzy and his four siblings came to AHS with their mama when they were just 4 weeks old and have been raised lovingly by their foster family. Come on over then and see if Ozzy is the one for you!

WIZZY

Wizzy is the counterpart of Ozzy, the other orange tabby in his litter. He is cute as a button and a mama’s boy! A human mama, that is. He comes when his mama calls him, listens when she speaks to him and loves to cuddle with her. Wizzy and his four siblings came to AHS with their mama when they were just 4 weeks old and have been raised lovingly by their foster family. Come on over then and see if Wizzy is the one for you!

LIZZY

Round as a pumpkin, cute as a button! That’s Lizzy girl! She’s got the gorgeous Siamese kitty looks and eyes that will make you fall in love. At her foster mama’s home, she would sit in a tray and enjoyed being pulled around as if she was in a carriage! She is so adorable that she comes with a warning: you will be kissing her non-stop! Lizzy and her four siblings came to AHS with their mama when they were just 4 weeks old and have been raised lovingly by their foster family. Come on over then and see if Lizzy is the one for you!

SHERI

Sheri is very, very.....extraordinary! She’s got that extra zing, that extra spark, that extra something that is sure to bring extra joy to your home. Sheri came to us bearing good news and she gave birth to four beautiful kittens in her foster home. Her foster mama says that she was the perfect, sweet, dedicated and caring mother inspite of being so young and inexperienced. Sheri loves people! You will see that from the way she excitedly rushes to greet you. She is a sucker for belly rubs and back rubs and behind-the-ear rubs. Enough rubbing to summon a genie! Just over a year old, she is sprightly and will keep you on your toes. After play, she likes to curl up in your lap for a nap. Needless to say, she is a hug bug and will make a great snuggle buddy. In short, Sheri is the cat of your dreams. So why don't you come on over and rub noses with this bundle of love?

TAMMY

Sugar and spice, everything nice! That sums up what this cute little munchkin is. She spent 17 days in foster care as she was too young to get spay surgery. Her foster mama describes as her a bundle of energy and endless joy. Tammy loves to play and her favorite toys were bead chains, dangle toys, paper balls, laser lights and her foster mom’s fingers and toes. When she was done with playing, she would sit with her mama and read or watch a movie or type nonsense on her laptop. Her left pupil seems permanently dilated but her vision is excellent. In fact, it gives her a unique expression when she looks at you. This ball of fur is an absolute delight and a perfect addition to any family. Come on over and shake paws with her.

SMOKEY

Fall is here. Time to turn over a new leaf. Ok, not those leaves. But those in a book. A new page, a new chapter. Smokey wants to forget what has happened before and wants to start afresh with a new family. In the past, he has been described as being too hyper; probably frequent walks and extended play time will help him burn the excess energy. He is also known to be destructive and stubborn; he is probably just anxious or bored but a calm home environment and plenty of activities to keep him entertained might help. An excellent way to teach Smokey good dog etiquette is to enrol him in an obedience class, and with patience and love, he should be able to make it to Santa’s nice list in time for the holidays. Having said that, there are some things that Smokey shouldn’t change. Like sitting when he is asked to, chasing flying discs and tennis balls, running to you for hugs and kisses and sweet caresses, enjoying being fussed over and laughing out loud with his tongue hanging out when you crack a joke. If you are one of those people who believes that everyone including dogs deserve a second chance, Smokey would definitely like to meet you!
Note: Smokey is altered and ready to go home.

RAY

Picture a portly, distinguished looking gentleman in an orange suit with a neatly trimmed moustache and voila! Ray comes to mind. At almost three years of age, he is a full-grown adult making every effort to behave like one. Except when he can’t stop himself from rolling on his back with glee when you rub his belly or wriggle in ecstasy when you scratch behind his ears. Right now, he still seems a little shy as he gets adjusted to shelter life, but once he finds his new home, he will reveal his playful side. Maybe you are just what he needs to bring back the spring in his step. And with some good ol’ exercise and a regulated diet, he can drop a few extra pounds too. So get the family over to shake paws with this roly-poly ball of orange and take home forever love.

SHELLEY

Shelley is a four-year-old adult dog with the mind and energy of a puppy. It might be freezing outside, but she is ever ready for her walk and play time. She isn’t giving up on that in any season. She is a quite a smarty and knows how to sit and extend her paw for a shake. Given the right amount of training and discipline, she can be taught a lot of important dog etiquette like not pulling on the leash and not jumping when leashing her. At 72 pounds, she is a large dog and is so full of excitement that she can knock you over with her love if you don’t stand your ground. So she definitely needs an experienced owner who can handle her super energy. She likes her cuddles and kisses but she can be a rough lover. So she needs to be taught how to give gentle hugs and quite kisses. Shelley was treated for Heartworm on 12/30/2014 so she will need leash walks only till 2/2015 and a Heartworm re-test in June 2015. But shouldn’t stop you from coming over to meet sweet Shelley and rubbing her belly!

WOODY

Woody is goody-goody! Good at giving kisses, good at hugs, good-looking, good at fetch, good at making you fall in love with him! In short, he is a good boy indeed! He is a smart dog who can be taught new tricks and who can teach you one or two as well. He knows the sit command and knows how to fetch and can chase up to two or three balls all at the same time. Whenever you speak to him or about him, he will cock his head and look at you with the cutest expression. Sigh...how can you resist that face! When he is excited about going for his walk, you will need all your strength on the leash but a few obedience classes will teach him to walk like a gentleman. If you have been looking to extend the family, knock on wood, he is the perfect dog!  So get everyone over to meet Woody and don’t forget to slip him a goodie!

SHADOW

He’ll follow you around. Everywhere you go, every time you look around, he’ll be there. He will be your shadow and your faithful friend. At almost 5 months of age and 25 pounds, he still has a lot of growing up to do. Shadow is bubbly, energetic, playful and affectionate. He is a lovely black and white pup with some very interesting black and white patterns on his legs and in between the black patches. His unique coloring ensures that he will be recognized anywhere! He is a smart puppy who needs to be kept active with stimulating play and daily exercise. He can be a good running partner, hiking partner, picnic partner, beach buddy and more. He should be able to fit every role just fine. With a little bit of training, he will learn good doggie etiquette and be able to be the best he can be. If you are looking for a constant companion who will always stay by your side, come on over and let Shadow be your shadow.

SCOUT

Scout around no more! The dog you are looking for is looking right back at ya! With those sweet, intense eyes, his face can melt a heart of stone. No wonder he was adopted twice as two families found him irresistible, however, due to reasons beyond their control, they had to give him up. But Scout isn’t sad, as he knows that he is definitely going to be third time lucky! As an American Bulldog mix, he is a hunk of love at 63 pounds. He is social, outgoing and polite with other dogs. He seems to be a perfect fit in a house with lots of space and a family who has the time and the ability to care for a big dog. He is quite the gentleman on his leash and enjoys his walks. He doesn’t care too much about playing fetch but we are sure he would love to learn how! He enjoys his back rubs and caresses and will steal a kiss or two. If you are looking for a sweet, gentle dog that will enrich your life, that dog is Scout, without a doubt!

SADIE

At 78.5 pounds, Sadie is a gentle giant with a heart of gold. She is past her puppy years and has grown into a beautiful, mature young dog with a mind of her own. She will wait patiently to be walked and won’t jump or beg; it’s part of her ladylike personality.  And because of her gentle demeanour, you won’t get any raucous barking from her even though the dogs around her are making a din. She’s so refined and poised, you would think she was born a princess in a royal family. And probably that explains why the only skeleton in her closet is that she likes to be the Queen of her household. She was returned because she was aggressive with her previous owner’s other dog. So it will be best if she is the only dog in her new home. Having said that, she doesn’t seem to have any issues with people or children but it would be nice to bring other family members along to meet her. Sadie is not one who easily falls in love with just about anyone. Being a mature, intelligent lady, she takes her time until she is sure she has met the right family. Once she is convinced, she will give her heart completely. She walks well on her leash and knows to how to conduct her toilet activities outside. Boxer/retrievers are generally bright, energetic, playful, loyal, and friendly; once Sadie has settled in with her new family, we are pretty sure she will be all that and more! She just seems to be waiting for the right people to come along to show her true colours. And you will know you are the right person, when Sadie flashes one of her rare but precious wide smiles!  If you are looking for a dog who will be faithful for life and who will love you unconditionally, bring the family to meet Sadie. With a little training and lots of love, patience and commitment, Sadie will earn her place in your heart.

NEAL

Dark as night, bright as day! Neal is CAT MAN, the superhero pet who will save you from a life of boredom. Unlike Bat Man, Neal doesn’t wear a mask. His feelings are plain to see. All he needs is a gentle touch and a little coaxing and he will happily let you rub your nose with his. He also returns kisses and likes it when you blow through the fur on his tummy. Now who can resist loving like that? If Bat Man has his trademark cape and mask, Neal has a long flowing tail and a scar on his back that probably originated from an accident, or from a battle to save the world from the bad guys. It seems permanent but the good thing about it is that he can easily be recognized if he ever got lost. True to his Cat Man character, Neal can jump if not fly! He can leap from the floor right up to his bed which is more than four feet high! He is a very curious cat and loves to play with anything that moves. Oh, what delightful entertainment he will provide to his new owner! If you are looking for a real-life super kitty, come on over to meet Neal with an empty wallet (his adoption fee has been waived) and a heart full of love.

PIPER

Remember the Pied Piper of Hamelin who led the rats and the children out of the town with his music? Well, our Piper isn’t as notorious as that guy but she is a leader alright! She loves to be the first out of the door and the first into the play yard but a few training lessons will teach her how to follow her leader instead.  Thanks to her small size, she is agile and always on the bounce. Yes, bounce, bounce, bounce she goes! Watch her sweetly bounce like a spring when you pass her by, always up for some petting and playing. Being young and full of energy, she is bound to get into some mischief but obedience classes will teach her how to behave like a lady. She also seems like a dog who can teach you a few tricks as well as learn some herself. If you would like to stay young at heart, share your home with this sprightly leader and her sweet antics will lead you straight to her heart.

PANCHO

The chubbiest of the four, he is a complete tabby from head to toe. He has the cutest kissable belly and loves to chase anything that moves. Paper balls, shoe laces and empty boxes are a few of his favourite things. He is a whiz with computers! Master of typing gibberish and deleting important files, you might want to think twice before letting him near your laptop.
History: Pablo, Pancho, Peppito and Paloma came to AHS with their mommy when they were just 12-day-old teeny weeny fur balls. They have been in foster care ever since and have blossomed into beautiful, charming kittens today.

PABLO

His face looks so innocent when he is not up to mischief. He loves to cuddle and kiss your nose and will look for a lap to curl up on when he is sleepy. He is a team player and will support his siblings in every game they play.
History: Pablo, Pancho, Peppito and Paloma came to AHS with their mommy when they were just 12-day-old teeny weeny fur balls. They have been in foster care ever since and have blossomed into beautiful, charming kittens today.

PEPPITO

His white paws and chest and belly set him apart from his two brothers, though he looks more like his sister. Just like his name, he is peppy and fun and loves his human! You can expect a lot of cuddles, nuzzles, gentle paw pats and kisses from this lover.
History: Pablo, Pancho, Peppito and Paloma came to AHS with their mommy when they were just 12-day-old teeny weeny fur balls. They have been in foster care ever since and have blossomed into beautiful, charming kittens today.

PALOMA

The only girl among the boys, she is the leader of the pack! Always the first to discover new things and the first to jump to new heights. Her eyes are super curious and follow your every move. Her mind is sharp and her intelligence knows no bounds. When it is sleepy time, she wants to be as close as possible to her human, wrapped around your neck or close to your face so you are within kissing distance.
History: Pablo, Pancho, Peppito and Paloma came to AHS with their mommy when they were just 12-day-old teeny weeny fur balls. They have been in foster care ever since and have blossomed into beautiful, charming kittens today.

OMELET

Despite his name, he isn’t a bad egg at all. At three years of age, Omelet has grown into a tall, slender and handsome dog. While he has lived with a family before, he doesn’t have the best people skills. He has a reservoir of energy which he happily expends when is on his walks which means you need to have to be in firm control of his leash. He gets along well with other dogs; reticent at first but then will chase and wrestle with them. He isn’t an expert on the rules of fetch so he knows the bit about running after the ball but isn’t sure about returning it. However, being the smarty that he is, he will pick that up in no time. Omelet isn’t quite up-to-date with his doggie manners; he will chomp on his leash especially when it’s time to return to his kennel and startle you when he jumps up for a hug. But it has been observed that with the right training and some obedience classes, he can be disciplined and can learn good doggie etiquette. In fact, he does sit when you tell him to, so that’s a great start. Omelet is one of the lucky dogs to have his DNA tested which proves that he belongs to the American Staffordshire and Rottweiler family tree. So no mystery about his history and you can read up all about his breed to be better able to care for him. From the outside, he is a vision of mischief, but on the inside he is a sweet dog waiting for a special someone to love. Will it be you?
Note: Omelet is an UNDERdog as he has been here longer than 30 days so his adoption fee is reduced. Yay!

NOELLE

No-elle is a yes girl! Yes to walks, yes to playing, yes to cuddles, yes to kisses! Not a year old yet, Noelle is still a puppy. She weighs about 30 pounds but she thinks she is as light as a feather when she plops down in your lap and makes herself comfortable. She is big into cuddling and kissing! What fun it will be to snuggle with her on a cold morning and get warmed up by her sweet love. Her ears are always moving this way and that, tuned to the sound of your voice. She will chase a ball or flying disc but don’t expect to get it back. She probably bunked that class on fetch. She is very sweet and calm when the leash is put on and taken off. No drama or fuss from this lady. Once she is out, she can sometimes forget her doggie manners, but nothing that can’t be put right with a little training and love. Get the family over to shake paws with Noelle and see if she is the perfect fit for your heart and home.

NEON

He isn't as flashy and jazzy as his name. He is just a sweet, down-to-earth puppy who wants nothing more than love and friendship from his humans. Since he is so irresistible, he was adopted twice but returned because his owners couldn't care for him due to their change in personal situation.
But Neon isn't the one who gives up. He believes he will be third time lucky and this time his forever home will really be forever.  He is a wee bit shy and would need some patience and love to get him out of his shell and be a confident puppy. His idea of kisses is jumping right up at you and stealing a quick one. At 6 months of age and 21 pounds, Neon seems like he will grow into a medium-sized dog but with a big heart to love. If you think you can be Neon’s forever family, come on over and take home a bundle of happiness.

MUPPET

Size doesn’t matter; especially when you think about how a teenie weenie 11-pound dog can give you gigantic portions of love! Muppet is the classic lover. First he will lure you with his eyes and when you are hooked, he will run up to you and jump into your arms. Then of course, you can’t resist his unending barrage of sweet kisses that make you believe that true love does exist. While he is pretty content spending the whole day snuggled in your lap, Muppet enjoys his daily walks in the park and excitedly chases anything smaller than him, like a tennis ball. To show you how happy he is with the attention he is getting, he will roll over on the floor and you can watch his tail go at 900 wags a minute. Muppet is a little bundle of energy and it is fun watching him play. If you are looking for a small sized dog that doesn’t ask for much but gives a lot in return, get the family including the kids down to meet this cutie and you might just go home proudly telling everyone that he is - Mah pet!

MINDY

Mindy is a special girl who needs a special owner to understand her and love her for who she is. She is a bundle of unbounded energy and can run at the speed of lightning. Which is a good thing if you are looking for a running partner. No squirrel or garden lizard escapes her eye and you can be sure that she will passionately give chase even if they are high up in a tree! When she is done playing, she will come to you to get her loving and kisses.  She is a good candidate for some obedience classes which will teach her to act like a lady while she is being leashed and walked. One thing Mindy minds is dog parks. They are not her cup of tea. She prefers to stay out of them.  If you have previous experience with pit-bulls and are willing to give Mindy a chance to show you what a sweet girl she can be, come on over and meet you your new best friend.

MELINA

In Greek, Melina means honey. And our Melina is indeed as sweet as honey with looks to match. Sometimes she can be a honeybee too but minus the sting. She is active, always buzzing around in her play room, bravely exploring places that other kitties haven’t gone before. This honeybee is also the Queen bee of her home and prefers to be the only cat. She is a master of communication and is always trying to say something through her meows and trills and chatters and growls. Listen carefully and you will soon have a healthy communication channel with her. She loves her scratch post and likes to play with her teaser toys. She also enjoys her ‘me’ time. She isn’t demanding of your unending attention and is happy to give you your space too. Just make sure to hold her right and treat her right, like a lady should be treated and she will give you lots of love in return. If you think Melina will be the purr-fect fit for your family, come on over and get a taste of sweet happiness.

MAX

MINIMUM DOG, MAXIMUM LOVE. That’s how Max would best be described.  Small though he is, he has so much to give. At just 12.80 pounds, this good thing has definitely come in a small package. Max doesn’t fall in love with just about anybody. If he doesn’t like you, he will let you know as soon as you meet him. But if he thinks you are the right person, his love knows no boundaries. He will adore you with all his heart and soul, rewarding you with happy licks and his undivided attention. However, this love comes at a price. He gets very protective of his owners and he wouldn’t like to share you with anyone, not even your friends or children. He wants you all to himself just as he willingly gives you all his love and life.  So if you live in a home with adults, and if you enjoy being the only love of your dog’s life, please come over and shake paws with Max. Remember, he is minimum trouble but MAXimum gain.

BEAL

To Beal or not to Beal, that is the question. The answer of course is: to Beal. And why wouldn’t you?  He’ll be the best friend who will never let you down; he’ll be your sunshine on a cloudy day, your shoulder to cry on, your patient listening ear when you need one. And because he is all this, he expects the same in return, which means that he can get protective of his family and treats strangers or guests with suspicion. Maybe that’s just his way of helping you weed out your fake friends and keeping you safe. In his previous home, Beal was the perfect gentleman to the family Shih Tzu and adored the three children. And with the right training and a patient owner, we’re sure he will learn to be as courteous and nice to your guests and strangers as well. We have observed that he is a pretty calm, chilled out guy with people and in the play yard here, though he might not be the kind of dog who likes to play rough in a dog park. If you are looking for a great dog to complete your family, bring the children and other dogs over to meet Beal and seal the deal!

MARY

There’s something about Mary! Perhaps it’s her captivating gaze? Or her cute pink nose? Or her pointed Batman ears? Or the white ring around her tail? Or her sweet kisses? It’s probably all of the above and more! Mary’s rescuer got her in from the street to AHS and she has lived in a foster home for a month. She brought so much joy to her foster parents with her funny antics and her lovable ways. She can play all day and likes to keep her human company 24x7. When she is sleepy, she will crawl into your lap and settle down for a nap effectively turning the purring engine on. She’s gorgeous, funny, smart and can make anyone fall in love with her. Come meet her and see for yourself!

LYON

There is definitely more to this dog than meets the eye. At first glance, he might come across as the bratty impish Pit Bull terrier who is always up to mischief. But once you spend some time with him, you will realize that he is a highly intelligent dog who just needs the right owner to train him and discipline him into being the best he can be. He pulls on the leash and jumps up high when you get ready to walk him, but with a few obedience classes and patience, he will learn some good doggie etiquette. He understands and respects the sit command. He loves to fetch a ball and never tires of doing so that’s because he knows he gets a good hug and head rub when he gets back. When he takes off running like the wind, you can only admire his lean, muscular physique and his handsome face. Lyon will do well with an experience dog owner and in a home with a fenced yard and kids older than 10 years of age. He seems to play a little rough with other dogs so dog parks might not be a good idea just yet.  If you have a lot of loving to give, come on over and meet Lyon. He will repay you ten-fold.

LULU

If the dog world had fashion models, this leggy lass would have been a supermodel! She is blessed with endless legs; she stands tall and her body is sleek and sculpted to perfection. She is the gal who can make heads turn when she walks by your side. She is part American English Coonhound which is renowned for its speed and endurance, and Lulu has the strength, grace and attitude of a well-conditioned athlete. If you are looking for a jogging partner, Lulu fits the bill. She has lived in a home with a child before and she seems to be sociable and friendly with people and dogs alike. She moves so gracefully, you can’t help but stop and stare at her transfixed. Being an athletic breed, Lulu needs regular exercise and activity to stay in peak shape. She is very generous with her love and likes to kiss and snuggle. If you are looking for the perfect addition to your family, come down and meet Lulu; you will find it hard to resist this eye candy.

LULU

Sugar and spice, everything nice. That’s lil Lulu! From a tiny three-week-old kitten found abandoned in someone’s dog house, Lulu has blossomed into a beautiful, strong and intelligent kitten. Needless to say, her foster parents gave her the utmost love and affection while in their care. Being a frisky lil kitten, Lulu has boundless energy and can play for hours. Dangling shoe laces, paper balls, wriggly toes, empty boxes, bouncy balls; these are a few of her favorite things. She loves everyone! People, felines and canines alike. Your heart just melts when she falls asleep in your arms or nuzzles against your chest with her head tucked under your chin. And if that’s not enough, she will rub noses with you, kiss your lips, and gently touch your cheeks with her paws. She is a serious lover alright! If you are looking for a pawsome kitty who will bring unlimited joy to your home, come on over, Lulu is waiting for you!

LUCYLOVE

The Love in her name says it all. You will fall head over heels in love with her. Love her with all your heart. Love her to the moon and back. That’s because all she knows to do is love. She also expects love in return of course. She loves you to give her unlimited belly rubs and back end rubs and head rubs. She loves when you kiss her and whisper sweet nothings in her ears.  She loves to play with anything that moves. And she loves to surprise you with every unique thing she does. LucyLove is less than a year old so technically, still a kitten. Her pink button nose is built to touch yours perfectly when you have a heart to heart conversation with her. She perky ears catch every word you say and helps her to respond to you with just the right meows. Her foster mom said that Lucy could sense when she was sad and knew that jumping into her lap for a snuggle was the best remedy for the blues. The love that you will find with Lucy is the stuff that romantic novels and movies are made of. They say, you can’t hurry love, you just have to wait....but in this case, if you hurry and take Lucy home, you won’t have to wait to find love!

LUCY

‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself’. This dog takes this teaching very seriously indeed. Lucy loves all her doggie neighbours unconditionally! She is overjoyed when she sees another dog and will go all out to meet and greet and play! However, the same can’t be said for people. Lucy is quite nervous and shy in her interactions with people which could possibly be due to her lack of human contact as she was transferred here from another shelter and probably never lived in a home before. But no worries, that can all be worked out! With increased socialization, lots of love and patience, Lucy will emerge from her cocoon as a confident, beautiful, care-free butterfly! All she needs is a chance! If you have dogs at home already you will definitely want to add Lucy to your family. She will be their best friend and lean to be confident and they can teach her new tricks too! So come on over and fall in love with Lucy.

LINA

Lina is a special puppy blessed with boundless energy! She is always on the go and will keep you on your toes too. When she is not running around her play yard and exploring every nook and corner, she will stay by your side long enough to be petted and caressed and kissed. Being a young puppy, she is all set to learn the proper doggy etiquette, leash manners, how to fetch and new tricks. So Lina will surely be the best student in her obedience class! She is a golden puppy, with fur that sparkles in the sun. With a golden heart to match, she has a lot of love to give. If you are looking for a puppy that will keep your family active and happy, come on over and meet beautiful Lina!

LEO

Roaaarrrrrrr! The King of the doggie jungle is here! Living up to his name, Leo is a lion indeed. Strong, brave, energetic and a born leader. However he can be a gentle pussycat when he gets his petting and loving. As the King, he can set an example for other dogs. He is chilled out, well-behaved and polite at all times and knows some basic house manners. That’s probably because he has lived with a family for five years. However some extra training or an obedience class will do wonders to bring out the best in him. He enjoys play time in the yard and boy, oh boy, does he love the water! He knows how to beat the heat by jumping into our doggie pools here and splashing around. If you are looking to complete your family with the perfect dog, come on over and let King Leo rule your hearts.

ROCKET

5...4...3...2...1...and away she zooms in a flash! That’s Rocket, a happy, energetic dog that has boundless fuel for fun and play. Her ears, even the cute nibbled one, are forever perked up waiting to hear the words: walk, play, toys. Rocket loves to chase a ball and when she is running after one you can see her go by in a blur. She’s that zippy. She only needs to learn how to return the ball politely now. Her love for exercise makes her a great running partner. She adores her tug toys and is always up for a tug-of-war game with you. We have observed that she plays well with other dogs here and enjoys chasing and wrestling with them. However, she might do better in a home with older children as she might be too energetic for smaller kids. With a few training classes, Rocket will learn to tone down her super power and also pick up good dog etiquette. If you are an active family and looking for a dog that can keep you lively, then zip by our Howell Mill Campus and let Rocket zoom straight into your heart and home.

LANCE

Remember those crushes you had in school and college? And how you drooled over them every time you saw them? Well, here’s a cat that is smitten by everyone he meets and drools with contentment when he is petted. Cats don’t drool as often as dogs do, but when they do, it shows that they are super happy! Lance is a delight to hold; his soft body feels like a comfy pillow. He is black all over except for a tiny tuft of white on his chest. He loves to be petted. All the time. All day if possible. He will twist this way and that so that you can reach every spot behind his ears, under his chin and on the top of his head. He will come to you when you call him and with those pussy cat eyes ask to be petted some more. He is a perfect fit for any lap and home. If you’ve never had a crush on a cat before, here’s your chance to fall for Lance.

LaLa

My heart goes shalala lala, shalala in the morning. Oh oh oh shalala lala, shalala in the sunshine. Shalala lala, shalala lala in the evening. Shalala lala shalala lala just for you.

When you meet LaLa, you can’t help singing with joy. Her sweet demeanour and cute eyes will bring a song to your lips. She is a three-year-old terrier mix and her compact size is perfect for small living spaces. She is a great fit for your lap and your arms but she might need more space in your heart. She has an old hip fracture which makes her limp sometimes but she seems ok for now. You will just have to ensure that she maintains a normal weight to keep her hip healthy. So hide those Christmas goodies and treats! She also has a small wound on her head but that is healing well. She walks well on her leash but is a little shy. With some Tender Loving Care and increased socialization, she will become more confident in the world outside. This holiday season, fill your home with the joy and happiness of having a dog. Come meet LaLa and break into song: It’s the season to be jolly...fa la la la la, la la la la...

LADY

She is as lady-like as a dog can get. Polite, well-mannered (almost) and elegant. It might not seem so when you first see her but that’s because she is excited to leave her kennel after a long day to get her exercise and private business done. Once she has ticked these two off her list, she feels more like her lady-like self. When you ask her to sit, she will oblige. When you call her, she will come bounding up to you, eager for petting and caresses and a loving peck on her cute black nose. Chasing tennis balls are right up her alley. But if you want her to return them to you, you will have to teach her how.   She seems to get along well with other dogs, albeit a little nervous when it comes to chasing and wrestling with them. She came to us from another animal shelter but has lived in a home before and with Lady Luck on her side, she hopes that she can find her forever family in time for the Holidays!

KOSMO

Look who’s all geared up for the winter! It’s Kosmo, the gentleman in his warm, furry, grey and white coat finely dressed right down to his white boots.  He’s the cat with the good looks and he is going to make your neighbours green with envy. If you have some cleaning to do before winter sets in, fear not. Just ask Kosmo to wave his feather-duster shaped tail and voila, you’ve got your furniture all dusted and clean. Kosmo is a refined, well-mannered kitty alright, but once in a while he likes to shed his stately demeanour and have a good roll on the ground like the commoners. When he isn’t thinking up brilliant ideas on how to take over the cat world, he will indulge in playing with his toys and mewing out his thoughts aloud. He likes his belly rubs and scratches behind the ears and you will enjoy running your fingers through his soft fur too. If you’re looking for the best cat in the whole cosmos, come over and let Kosmo step into your world.

PRANCER

Clip clop, clip clop he goes on his leash, prancing about cutely with every step he takes.  We strongly suspect that he was one of Santa’s reindeer and lost his way from the North Pole and ended up with us. But of course, he is now looking for his new home before Christmas! Every now and then, you will see his cute head popping up from his kennel scouting around for a loving caress or a sweet kiss and undoubtedly, he gets it. Prancer is ever alert, his ears always perked up waiting to hear the words: walk, treat, play, toys! He loves all kinds of people and toys equally and plays no favorites. He seems to be a very smart pup and eager to learn new tricks. He is currently five months old and is growing into a handsome dog. If you’re looking for irresistible cuteness and unconditional love, come on over and let Prancer prance right into your heart!

PICKWICK, MOBRO, DOTTIE DEE and MOTO MOTO

These four fur balls of love were born on May 6th at their foster mama’s home. Their real mama cat is the sweetest cat to walk this earth and took good care of them. Their foster mama recalls with joy how the little crawling babies grew up quickly into adorable active kittens!
Pickwick: He is the first born. He is very photogenic and one of the calmer ones. It is a delight to watch him falling asleep in your arms. He looks out for his siblings and helps in grooming them.
Moto Moto: Named after the hippo in the movie ‘Madagascar’, Moto Moto is the chubbiest of the four and his expressions are priceless! He has longer fur and a longer, straighter tail. He loves his belly rubs and likes to be held. He has been bathed twice and he seems comfortable with getting wet.
MoBro: Short for Moustachio Brother, he has an attractive white moustache mouth. He is very playful and alert and enjoys sweet caresses and cuddling. He likes to sleep in your arms too.
Dottie Dee: She has a cute black dot on her chin which looks like a beard from some angles. She is the only female in the litter and the most spirited. Always on the go, she will keep you on your toes. She is the brave leader of the pack and the rest follow her cues.
Add any one of them to your family and be assured that love and happiness will forever reside in your home.

KIMMY

Kimmy is a beautiful kitty with eyes that can make you fall in love with her. She was a proud mama of four precious kittens and she did a fantastic job of taking care of them. Her foster mama reports that Kimmy is a sweet and shy cat and very loving. She takes a little time to warm up to you but once she is comfortable, she begs to be petted and caressed. Being a young cat, she is playful but caring for her kittens took away all her time from play. Now that she is on her own, she can get back to having fun with jingle toys and bouncy balls. If you are looking for a sweet, non-nonsense kitty, come on over and meet this beautiful lady.
Note:  You will notice that she had a ‘side spay’ and not a ‘tummy spay’ as it is a safer surgery for mama cats who have just finished lactating.

JUPITER

Jupiter might be the fifth planet from the sun, but our Jupiter loves her life on Earth and very soon you will find that your world revolves around her.  She was recently returned to us because her owners had allergy issues. Since she has come back to the shelter, she feels like she has landed on a different planet so she is a little shy. But just give her a little time and she is back to her real self. Oh how she loves to be caressed and scratched behind her ears! She is Miss Affectionate alright. She will push her head against your hand and demand to be petted and she doesn’t ever want you to stop. She can be so happy and content just being loved by you all day. Forget faux fur this winter, take home this bundle of real fur and warm up your life.

EYEris

There is more to this cat than meets the eye. If you can look beyond her missing green emerald, you will see a beautiful, smoky grey bundle of fur waiting to enrich your life. Though she is a large feline, EYEris is very agile and always up and about. She loves to explore every nook and cranny hoping to find some hidden treasures. She likes her scratching post and enjoys playing with her teaser toys. She is heaven to touch; you will love the feel of her soft fur and she takes great pleasure in being petted and caressed, though within her limits. She lost her right eye due to a growth that the vet thought best to remove, but the vision in her left eye is perfect. The only time she won’t see eye to eye with you is with regards to having other cats in the same house. She prefers to be the only one. If you are looking for a forever companion who will be the apple of your eye, come over and find out why EYEris is the EYEdeal cat for your home.

JOE

He’s not your average Joe. He’s a highly intelligent, lovable kitten that knows all the tricks to win your heart. One moment he is flying across the room chasing paper balls and the next he is fast asleep in your arms dreaming of kitty treats. His fur has a really cool black and white pattern with the most interesting part on his face which makes you think: Is he a cute bandit? A Panda? Raccoon? Bat cat? Joe came to AHS along with three of his siblings when he was just four weeks old and he has enjoyed the tender loving care of three foster families. But now he is looking for his forever family and you could just be it! So come on over and shake paws with this cute ball of fur!
Notes from the foster parents: Joe eats canned and dry food. He is used to both clumping and non-clumping clay litter.

ANDI

This sweet calico was the only girl in her litter of four and loved by her brothers. Her face is a reflection of innocent mischief and every time she looks at you, you just want to drop everything you are doing and pick her up and kiss her. Her favourite games are chasing paper balls and shoe laces, darting in and out of tiny spaces and swatting her siblings’ tails. She loves to snuggle and be petted and is a purring machine when she’s asleep on your lap. If you’re looking for a sweet kitty to fill your home with joy, drop in and rub noses with adorable Andi!
Notes from the foster parents: Though she eats both Andi prefers dry over canned food. She is used to both clumping and non-clumping clay litter.

JENNA

Beauty is only skin deep. This rings true when you see Jenna. She might be missing an eye, but her beautiful inner personality shines through and through. At just two years of age, Jenna is a young dog that is perfect is every way. Because of her compact size, she is easy to care for and doesn’t need too much space. She walks very well on her leash and she can see perfectly well with her remaining eye. This girl loves to play! She will cutely run into your arms from wherever she is when you call her. She doesn’t care too much about chasing a ball; she would rather focus on you and follow your lead. Whenever you have to carry her, she will sweetly lie down and wait for you to lift her up. She doesn’t believe in being fussy and rambunctious like other dogs. She is the epitome of gentleness, serenity and love. When she sits in your lap and you hold her close, you know that all is well with the world and nothing else matters when you have your best friend by your side. If you want to experience what true beauty and true love is, come on over and Jenna will gladly demonstrate.

JAYDEN

He is black...he is tan...he is white...he is sweet...he is Jayden! This 9-month-old has enough energy to fuel a turbine! A good idea would be to channel his energy with constructive play or using him as a good running partner. He is a handsome pup, no doubt and is almost fully grown. He would benefit from a few obedience classes that will teach him to walk well on his leash and to be more disciplined. He looks like a dog who would love to learn new tricks and hopes that his owner will teach him how to fetch. After he has expended all his energy in the play yard, he will come to you for a little love and affection but will take off again soon after. He believes in using his play time to the maximum. If you would like a great addition to your family and one that will keep you active and youthful, come on over and take a walk with jolly Jayden!

JASPER

Almost a year old, this little terrier is a compact sized hunk of love. He might be small, but he still needs his exercise and ample play time. Due to lack to appropriate socialization, Jasper is a wee bit nervous and shy and gets jumpy around loud sounds and sudden movements. But with all the attention and love he gets at the Humane Society, he is getting better every day. He likes people but doesn’t get along too well with other dogs so he might probably need to be the only dog at home. He also needs to be a home with kids older than 12 years of age. He likes play time and his toys and chasing a ball. But he will be delighted if you teach him how to fetch and other tricks. He jumps up into your lap for a quick hug and kiss and is off again. With time and adequate socialization, he will learn to be more comfortable sitting by your side once he is used to you. If you have space in your heart for this love bug, he will fit right in! Come on over and shake paws with Jasper.

JACK

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, the idiom goes. Our Jack also needs a lot of exercise and play time to keep him active and happy.  He is a well-built, mature 5 year old dog blessed with good looks and charm. He loves his walks and time in the play yard. He likes to chase a ball and will go after it at lightning speed but he doesn’t know how to return it yet. Perhaps, his new owners will teach him how. When you call him, he will zoom towards you and straight into your arms. He will place his paws adorably on your chest as you caress him and will stare lovingly into your eyes every now and then. Handsome, friendly, affectionate, playful and faithful, he is everything your best friend can be. If you are looking for an addition to your pack, come on over and take a look at Jack.

HONEYDEW

Sweet as honey, fresh as dew! This girl has all it takes to make your life beautiful! At just 12 pounds and two years of age, this Raggle (Rat terrier and beagle mix) is compact and fits perfectly in your arms. Honeydew is the kind of dog you fall in love with at first sight (By the way, the writer of this description is head-over-heels in love with her). She’s got the cutest tail that ends with a question mark! No jokes! You have to see it to believe it! The tip is like a hook and she can use it to very cleverly to hold on to things. She walks very well on the leash like a well-mannered lady and once she has finished with her business outside, she will promptly come back to your side and jump into your lap. She will worship you and adore you and show you so much of love that you can’t help but do the same to her. She doesn’t care too much about chasing a ball or doing cartwheels in the play yard like other dogs, she is simply content warming your lap and listening to your heart beat. If you are looking for a dog to fill your life with happiness, Honeydew is THE ONE.

HENRIETTA

This beautiful girl’s name has an old German origin and it means ‘Home Ruler’. Can a sweet dog like her have a more apt name? She will rule your home and your heart with her loving ways, indeed! Henrietta is still a puppy at 8 months of age with a few months of growing up left but she will be a medium sized dog, the right fit for every family. She is always excited about going for a walk but she will politely wait till you put on her leash. She is quite the lady like that. She enjoys playing fetch and gives every ball equal attention. After a game, she likes to hold her ball close and bask in the sun. When she isn’t playing or getting a sun tan, she will snuggle up with you and give and receive ample love! This dog is everything you’ve wanted in a best friend. So come on over with the family and let sweet Henrietta rule your home and heart!

PEACHES AND CREAM

This little puppy is as sweet as her name! At almost 7 months of age and just 24 pounds she will grow up to be a small sized dog that will fit perfectly in your arms and home. If you thought Pit Bull terriers were aggressive, watch your opinion change when you meet Peaches & Cream. She doesn’t have a single aggressive bone in her body and couldn’t hurt a fly! In fact, a fly would most probably hurt her! She is extremely timid and shy which could most likely be due to her past owner's neglect and lack of contact with humans. But with increased socialization, training, lots of love and patience, she will emerge from her shell a happy puppy! If you would like to give this sweet, gentle girl a chance at a good life with her forever family, come on over and shake paws with Peaches and Cream.

GLEN

You want a dog, you’re thinking when; the time is now, the dog is Glen! He came to us from animal control and is all set to find a home he can call his own. At 3 years of age and 63 pounds, Glen is a large dog but not too tough to handle; you just need a strong hand on the leash. At play time, he takes a break from being the mature, grown-up dog and lets his younger persona shine through. He loves to chase every ball you throw and will never tire of fetching. He is grateful for all the hugs and kisses you shower on him and will always come back for more. If you get tired of playing, he doesn’t mind sitting in a corner and chewing on his toy while you rest. He is forever attentive and his ears perk up whenever you are talking to him.  He communicates with you through all his cute expressions which makes him a great friend to have a conversation with. Glen is ready to move into his new home where he can warm his paws by the fireplace while getting a hearty belly rub. If you think you can give him the love he deserves, come on over then and say hello to Glen.

SUGAR

WARNING: Loaded with sweetness, may cause sugar shock! That’s our girl. The sweetest dog on four legs! She gets along well with her other four-legged friends and loves her two-legged friends including children, too. At four years of age, she has grown into a fine young lady. She is no Drama Queen or Diva; she walks well on her leash, isn’t rambunctious or fussy. She loves to play in the yard, chase a ball or two and she is always up for a lot of petting and cuddling.  Though she is an adult dog now, she still retains her puppy-dog eyes, which instantly warm you up. She would appreciate some basic training lessons to brush up on her potty training and manners. After all, she wants to be perfect for you.  This sweet dog has been treated for heartworm and is on leash-walk only till June 13. She will also need a Heartworm re-test in November. But she still has a big place in her heart for you, so come down here with the family and let her into yours.

ROMEO
As his name suggests, he is a lover boy indeed! He is young, good looking, brawny, romantic and a hit with the ladies! He loves his belly rubs, caresses and cuddles and wholeheartedly returns your affection. Being a young dog, Romeo has strength in abundance so he needs a strong arm on the leash. He also has unbounded energy which he puts into good use like being a great running partner, being social with other dogs by chasing and wrestling. He is a great fan of fetch and loves to chase a ball. But when you stop playing, he doesn’t mind sitting quietly and chewing the ball too.  With youth on his side, Romeo seems like a dog who can learn new tricks easily. So give him a few training lessons and he will learn to behave like a perfect gentleman. Come on over, meet Romeo and get ready to lose your heart; for this dog will love you till death do you part.

GINGER

Add some flavor and zest to your life with Ginger! She is a gorgeous Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix puppy and at a little over 9 months of age, she has a lot of growing up to do. Though she may seem shy and nervous at first, just give her time and she will show you her true colors, like a butterfly out of her cocoon! Once she is in the play yard, she loves to chase a squirrel or two and a ball! All she needs is time to open up. She loves her petting and cuddling, and we believe that with lots of loving and the correct training and socialization, she will learn to be more confident and friendly. She would be a good choice for an experienced dog owner who can be patient and gentle with her. All she needs is a chance to prove that she can be your best friend. If you are looking to spice up your life, get the family over to meet Ginger and take home a new flavor of love.

GABBY

When you look at this gorgeous 4-month-old, a lot of things come to mind: snowball, powder puff, moonbeam, bunny, cotton ball. Her pink nose is something you want to kiss every five minutes and her soft paws are great for priceless caresses. She is a very curious kitty and she likes to observe everything around her and watch your every move. When she is not chasing dangly toys and balls, she loves to curl up in your lap to keep you warm. She is very cooperative when it comes to getting her nails trimmed, her ears cleaned or taking her medicine. A real champ! She came to AHS with her brother Griffin and both are real sweethearts! Why don’t you come on over to meet them, shake paws and say meow?

GRIFFIN

This handsome 4-month-old orange tabby will steal your heart. He seems a little shy at first but then warms up to you and gives you his heart. He is a purr machines! Loves to be cuddled and fussed over. He has limitless energy and can play for hours. Shoe laces, paper balls and scratching posts are few of his favorite things. He is very cooperative when it comes to getting his nails trimmed, his ears cleaned or taking his medicine. A real champ! He came to AHS with his sister Gabby and both are real sweethearts! Why don’t you come on over to meet them, shake paws and say meow?

FRANKLIN

Have you ever seen a golden puppy? If not, you have to check out Franklin! Though his official colour description says he is brown, if you look closely, you will see his fur shining like gold in the sun! And he’s got equally enticing eyes to match. Not just his fur, but his personality is truly golden too. He is very gentle, calm, and extremely affectionate. He loves to be hugged and caressed. He will sit by your side or on your lap and accept every sweet kiss that comes his way. He likes to explore his play yard, loves to chase a ball and is a pretty chilled out puppy with no boisterous tantrums like other pups. At 6 months and 30 pounds, Franklin still has some growing to do and will do well in a house with sufficient space for a dog to rock and roll in. If you have a heart big enough to store all the love this adorable puppy can give, get the family over and take this golden boy home!

FLUFFY

As his name implies, he is a fluff ball right from the top of his head to the tip of his tail, which by the way, should serve very well as a feather duster too. He seems to know that he is a gorgeous cat and quite irresistible; you can tell from the way he looks at you fully aware that you are dying to pet him and get your hands in his soft fur. He will ease your desperation by offering his head first. After a few strokes, he will change his position and offer you his neck, then his back and so on. But just a wee bit at a time and when he wants you to stop he will let you know. So, be patient and nice to him, and fluffy will reward you well. He has a favourite toy and it is a joy to watch him play with it. However, he would like to have his favourite human too and it is possible that you could just be it. So why don’t you come over and find out? What’s more, fluffy has waived his adoption fee. He is pretty generous like that.

MOGWAI

If you wanna do things your way, you gotta have Mogwai! Being an older cat, she isn’t demanding or fussy like younger cats are. She will follow your lead and let you take over. If you want to hold her, she will curl up in your arms and be fussed over. If you want to leave her alone, she doesn’t mind at all and will enjoy her own company. She is super calm and gentle and gets along well with other felines. That’s probably because she lived with other cats in her previous home. She is a grey and white beauty, feather-pillow soft and sweet as honey. You have every reason to love this adorable, laid-back cat. Come on over and take Mogwai home today!

BELLA

As beautiful as her name! Bella is an armful of love! Once you pick her up, you will not want to put her down. She is the kind of cat you can have nose to nose conversations with. Kiss her, hug her, bury your face in her fur and she will love you right back. She is the friendly face in the window who says hello to every passerby. She is the one who welcomes you when you get back home. She is the stress buster you look for at the end of a tiring day. She is the warm cuddle you want on a cold winter’s night. She is the kind of thing that makes all your days happy and bright. Come on over and meet Bella, and experience the love that only a kitty can give.

FAITH

If there’s one thing that dogs have, it is faith; blind faith in humankind. Faith that they will be loved unconditionally. Faith that they will have a warm bed, a fully belly and a best friend for life. However, every once in a while, we shatter that faith and break the hearts of these trusting souls. Faith is one such dog who was let down by humans and landed up at the Okefenokee Humane Society. However, her faith was restored because she was also helped by humans and she is now at AHS looking for a second chance at a good life. She is just about two years old and has a lot of love to give. She has beautiful eyes, one with a speck of blue and if you look into them close enough, they might just tell you her story. Faith has been treated for heartworms; she will need to be on restricted activity for about 6 weeks and have a re-test in 6 months, but that’s all! She seems to have a great love for the outdoors and enjoys her time in the play yard. She will hop into your lap for some loving or sit quietly by your feet or roll over for a belly rub. If you’re looking for a dog that doesn’t ask for much but gives you her all, you gotta have Faith, Faith Faith, you gotta have Faith, Faith, Faith.

NIGEL

Though Nigel is a big boy, he asks for only a little space in your heart. Once you meet him, you will gladly give him all of it, of course. Only two years old and already so well-mannered! He will be seated when you get him ready for his walk and will politely take his seat again when you take off his leash after his walk. In between the two, he runs like the wind but then which dog wouldn’t after spending most of the day in a kennel? With a bit of training and a loving family to encourage him, he should be able to master the art of walking calmly on a leash too! Nigel has had a rough life before he came to AHS. If you can ignore the scars on his face, you will be able to see eyes aglow with the joy of being loved looking back at you. His doggie etiquette extends to sitting when he is asked to, offering his paw for a handshake and returning a ball. He will pop into your lap for some petting and caressing and shows great potential of being a snuggle buddy. This sweet boy has also been treated for Heartworms but don’t worry. It only means restricted activity for a month and a re-test in April 2016. Easy peasy! The festive season is just around the corner. Won’t you take Nigel home so that he too can celebrate with this new family?
Note: Having spent 30 days at AHS, Nigel is an UNDERDOG which means his adoption fee has been reduced. Yay!

ELLIE

White, black and brown....Ellie is a colorful girl and will fill your life with color too! At almost 6 years of age, she is a fully grown fine young woman with a personality of her own. Her previous owners described her as playful and friendly and we have observed that she indeed is. However, Ellie prefers to be the only pet in the house and loves to be the center of attention. She has lived with children before but she prefers older kids who are mature enough to understand her grown-up thoughts and hold intelligent conversations with her.  She loves rambling about in the play yard and loves to fetch a ball. However, on her way back to you with the ball, she will take a detour to sniff some interesting looking grass or a misplaced doggie treat, but will pick the ball up again from where she left off and bring it back to you. She is a smarty for sure! She loves to play with her humans but doesn’t care about mingling so much with her own kind. So dog parks are not really her thing. If you can give this 59 pound hunk of love the loving home she needs and if you are ready to get a best friend in return, come on over, meet Ellie and rub her belly!

HENRY

Remember how you always wanted a dog that would be cute, charming, playful, small-sized and your best friend? Well, you are looking at him right now! Henry is a happy dog who wants nothing more than to make people happy. He is young and energetic and loves to ramble about in the play yard. When you call him, he will joyfully run straight into your arms. He would make a wonderful picnic dog or beach buddy as he loves to sit by your feet and contemplate on life with you and enjoy beautiful sunsets. He seems to be good about going potty outside and will get your attention when he wants to go. He has a cute way of kicking up the dirt when he covers his poop, something like a cool dance move, lifting one leg at a time gracefully. He is a very loving and affectionate dog and fits perfectly in your arms. We’re sure he will be a perfect fit in your home and heart too. There is so much more to discover about this wonderful dog. So why don’t you get the family and other dogs over to meet Henry and get to know him better!

PHOENIX

Just like the legendary bird, our dog Phoenix has also risen from the ashes and has been reborn. She was rescued by Animal Control from a very bad situation where she was starving and was skinny. But now that she is with us, she has been given a new life. She is eating well, has regained all her strength and vigour and is as happy and healthy as any other puppy. She loves to play in the yard and chase a ball and is waiting for her new humans to teach her to fetch. She absolutely adores her belly rubs, snuggles, kisses and caresses. She is a special dog as you can see with a special speckled tongue to match! Rumors have it that whoever she licks is blessed with good luck and prosperity! And if it is true, you will want to make this dog your own soon! Though Phoenix is a Shepherd mix, she seems like she will grow up to be a smaller, medium-sized dog which means she will be easier to care for too! Phoenix is looking for her second chance at her forever home and if you think you can reward this brave girl with a happy new life, come on over and meet this extraordinary dog.

DOTTIEDEE

Named after the cute black dot on her chin, Dottiedee is one of four kittens born in her foster mama’s home. She is an entertainment package that you just can’t get enough of. She greets every morning with such enthusiasm that it inspires you to go out and enjoy your day. Her kitten curiosity about everything that moves is a sight to behold. She has simple tastes and doesn’t care so much for fancy toys. Rolled up paper balls and shoe laces delight her like nothing else can! It’s so much fun to watch her chase imaginary mice all over the place. This kitty loves water! Loves the sound of it and doesn’t mind a bath or two! When she isn’t zooming about and playing the fool, she will curl up in your lap or by your side and take those precious cat naps. She also likes to help you when you work on your laptop by stepping on your keyboard and typing gibberish. She enjoys watching TV when you do and will steal a kiss or two when you least expect it. Dottiedee is one of a kind! Why don’t you come over and take this irresistible kitty home with you?

DILL

Dill has been through a lot in his three and a half cat years. He had been living in an abandoned house for over a month when he was found, and of course, was severely emaciated when he got here. He also had an abscess on his neck which has long since been removed and healed. Despite his frightful ordeal, Dill has managed to keep cool and has a gentle, sweet disposition.  He was definitely nervous and shy when he arrived, but he is slowly opening up and gaining confidence. He isn’t feeling so playful at the moment but likes it when you offer him your hand and will sweetly nuzzle it and accept petting and caressing. All he needs right now is a lot of patience and love and very soon, he will be back to his super loveable self doing all the cute things that kitties do. If you think you can be his forever family, come on over and open your heart to Dill.

CUDDLY

No prizes for guessing how Cuddly got her name. That’s right! She loves to cuddle! White as snow. Soft as cotton. Huggable as a teddy bear. Who wouldn’t want to cuddle with this precious fur ball? At over one year of age and 41 pounds, Cuddly is a fully grown mature, young dog with a great personality. She is always happy to see you and is very generous with her affectionate licks and kisses. She does all the usual doggie things like surveying the play yard and sniffing out some treasures, chasing a ball and being intrigued by squirrels. Bu tin between all of this, she will remember to come running to you, cover you with her love and licks and go back to what she was doing. Cuddly travelled all the way from Hilton Head, SC to find a loving home here. She was treated for heartworm and will need a recheck at our clinic in January 2015.If you’re looking for a warm bundle of love to cuddle up with this cold winter and throughout the year, bring the family over to meet Cuddly and get ready for some serious loving!

CRUMPET

Why is the earth round? Why did the chicken cross the road? Why do treats taste so good? Why can’t dogs fly? All these questions and more are constantly playing on Crumpet’s mind and that is evident through her tail which is shaped like a cute question mark and the curious look on her face. Not that she is really looking for answers, but that doesn’t stop her from asking, does it? Crumpet is a bubbly 8-month old puppy and has some growing up left but it looks like she will be a medium sized dog. She has a warm and friendly personality and seems like she will do well with any family. She also seems to get along well with other dogs and likes to chase and wrestle with them. She is extremely playful and jumps at every chance to chase a ball, slide through piles of dry leaves and dance around with a stick in her mouth. She is a complete entertainer. She will take a break from her play time to put her head in your lap and get kissed and caressed. And when it is time to go back, she will ask that pertinent question: can’t we play some more? Crumpet isn’t the one to blow her own trumpet, but she will convince you that she is one of the best dogs ever! And you can find that out for yourself when you come over and meet her! Come soon!

BANJO

No, she did not come from Alabama on anyone’s knee and she isn’t going to Louisiana either as far as we know. But Banjo came to us from Delkalb County and is ready to go anywhere to find her true love and family! She is a sweet one-year-old blessed with tonnes of energy and she would definitely need an experienced owner who has the same amount of energy to keep up with her. She has the cutest perky rabbit ears and will follow your every move and sound when you pass by her. She likes to play and chase a ball but doesn’t think it necessary to return the ball to you just yet. Maybe, a treat could convince her to do so. It seems like a little training and discipline will help channelize her energy in the right direction. She could even make a great running partner perhaps. Even this Duracell doggie needs to recharge her battery sometimes. So when she is tired, she will sit sweetly by your side, paws in your lap and get refreshed with your caresses and kisses. Enough said! Why don’t you come over with a tune on your lips and sing a duet with beautiful Banjo!

TANGO

She isn’t in the mood right now to be a great dancing partner but in time, she should be able to tango, salsa and rumba for sure! Tango is a sweet 2-year-old cat with a multi-colored personality just like her multi-colored fur. She seems to be very cautious of her surroundings and will evaluate everything she comes in contact with. In the play room, she will take her time to inspect every square inch of floor before she takes the next step. She enjoys her rubs behind her ears and caresses and is good with being carried. She also likes to rub her head on your hand when you are not looking. Once she has settled in at her new home and with her new family, she should feel more comfortable and will open up. If you’re looking for a soft fur ball with a gentle demeanour, Tango is it. Come on over and rub noses with her.

CHICO

Young, handsome, affectionate and playful. That sums up our Chico! At 4 years 9 months of age and 55 pounds, Chico has been growing up very well. He gets excited when you take him for his walk and loves to jump to express his happiness. When he stands up on his rear legs and places his front paws on your shoulders, Chico is as tall as you! But that has an advantage if you like to dance! You can hold his front legs and dance a few steps of salsa with him. He likes to explore the play yard but isn’t particularly interested in playing fetch but he surely would like to learn how! With a few training lessons, he will learn how to not pull on the leash and how to walk like a gentleman. He enjoys his hugs and caresses and you would enjoy doing it too as he’s got lovely, soft fur. Chico was adopted out as a puppy from our shelter in 2009 but was surrendered by his owner recently as he was moving and couldn’t take him along. But Chico is all ready for his new home and family. If you think he is a perfect match for you, come on over and meet this sweet dog.

CHAD

A new year has just begun! What better way to kick-start 2015 than with a dog that can make all your days cheerful and bright? And we have just the one for you. Barely a year and half old and Chad is adept at stealing hearts and kisses while you are not looking! When you look deeply into those mischievous eyes, and rub noses with his pink nose and whisper sweet nothings into his pink ears, you know you are falling in love! Chad is a happy-go-lucky dog who loves the outdoors and loves to play! He is agile and light on his toes, which helps him climb up the ramp in the play yard in a jiffy. He enjoys playing with toys and would like to learn how to fetch. When you call him, he will run to you and snuggle close. He can sit by your side for hours and bask in the sun. He is also a great listener and will listen to all that you have to say very patiently and will never interrupt. If you’re looking for happiness 24x7, why don’t you get the family and any other dogs that you may have over to meet Chad? You may just go home with a new best friend!

CASH

Don’t let his name fool you. The truth is: he is priceless. He may not be a young puppy anymore, but that doesn’t make him any less loveable or cute. In fact, being an older dog, he is more mature, better mannered and calmer. He loves his walks and trots like a gentleman on his leash. He never ventures too far away and is always at your beck and call. When you whistle, he will sweetly cock his head and follow your tune. If you lead, he will follow you like your shadow but he does enjoy time off by himself as well. Oh, how he adores all the petting and kisses! He is a sucker for all the mollycoddling. Cash was surrendered owing to the failing health of his owner, but he has lived with a 12 year-old child and two other dogs, so he seems a perfect fit for a family. At just $75, Cash will bring you the kind of happiness that money can’t buy. So come meet this sweet dog and experience the richness of true love.

CARLEY

Turn down the heater. Throw away that hot water bottle. And take home some warm fluffy love to cuddle with instead. Carley is a sweet kitten who came back to us because her owner had allergy issues. But she is still looking for her forever home and hopes to spend thanksgiving and Christmas curled up in a warm lap and being loved by her new family. She is a little shy but opens up after a while. She is as curious as the next cat and likes to explore her surroundings and new toys and new smells. She’s got a beautiful coat of soft fur and likes the feel of your fingers on it. When you pet her, she will purr contentedly like a well-oiled engine. Come on over and rub noses with Carley, and take home your best gift this holiday season.

ELIZABETH

Sometimes, the best things in life just show up on your doorstep. Like Elizabeth did one fine day. A kind couple found her and took her in. Fed her, got her spayed, vaccinated and de-wormed. And what they got in return was the sweetest cat ever to walk this earth. Lizzy is just about a year old and fits perfectly in your arms or in your lap. She is always up for a lot of petting, caressing, scratching behind her ears, belly rubs, nose kisses and snuggling. She loves to snuggle in bed with you which means she will keep you nice and warm in winter. Oh boy does she love to play! She likes simple toys like paper balls and shoe laces. She can chase a wriggly shoe lace for hours! She is extremely intelligent and learns new things pretty quickly.  If your idea of happiness is sweet kitty kisses, soft paw pats on your face, unconditional love and adoration, then Elizabeth is the cat you are looking for. Come on over to AHS and take lovely Lizzy home.

CALLIE

Old is gold they say. Truer words were never spoken. Callie is a golden girl. With a golden heart and eyes to match. She is 13 years old but still has a lot of love to give. If you are looking for a non-demanding cat, and that is easy to care for, Callie is it. She will sit quietly by your side for hours or sleep on your bed if you want her to. Just pat the space next to you and she will jump up and join you. She loves to be petted is an understatement. She absolutely adores the hands that pet her! Some of her favorite areas are behind her ears, under her chin, both her cheeks, her head, her back, her belly and the base of her tail. She likes to be brushed. She doesn’t ask for much; just a comfortable bed, people to love her and tasty food. She makes a perfect couch companion and won’t sit on your book or type on your laptop like kittens would do. She listens when you talk to her and she will talk back when she wants to communicate. Callie is currently a little underweight but with the right food and a lot of TLC, she will bounce back! So won’t you take this golden opportunity to give this golden girl a second chance at happiness?

BUDDY

Running buddy, hiking buddy, lounging buddy, picnic buddy, Frisbee buddy, forever buddy. He can be all this and more. His friendship knows no bounds. Buddy is a young pup, almost eight months old with so much to give. He has enough energy to power up a small town, but that’s because he spends most of his day in his kennel so he can’t help but jump around in excitement when it’s time for his walk. But once he has let out his steam by playing, he will rest by your side while you give him his dose of petting and loving. Throw a tennis ball and he will run after it like the wind, though it is flying discs that he seems to have a secret preference for. He will sit when you ask him to; he is wonderful like that! With a few obedience classes, he should be able to channelize his energy in the right direction while picking up some dog etiquette. If you are an experienced dog owner and are looking for a companion to share your life and adventures, you know where to look buddy!

BROOKLYN

Brooklyn isn’t as famous as her name but she will be if you give her the chance! At 10 months of age and a healthy 50 pounds, she is in her final growing stages and developing into a beautiful lady. She is young, full of energy and life and a happy dog. She can put her energy to good use by being an awesome running and hiking partner. She seems to understand the sit command and she does lend her ear, trying to listen cutely whenever you are talking. She enjoys playing with her toys and chasing a ball and is always up for some hugs and kisses. With a bit of training, she will learn proper doggie etiquette and will make her family proud. If you would like to take home this pretty brindle bundle of love, come on over and lose your heart to Brooklyn.

HOUDINI

1, 2, 3 and poof! He has vanished! Our Houdini is a master escape artist. Smart and crafty indeed but his little tricks can keep you entertained for hours. At two years and 5 months, Houdini is a delightful surprise in a small-sized package. He will magically appear in your lap to get his share of snuggles and when you are not looking, will kiss you like you’ve never been kissed. He loves to chase a ball but has yet to learn how to return it. He has a funny knack of rubbing his back against a tree to get at that itch like a bear would do. Since Houdini is high energy, he would like to have a high-fenced yard to play in so that he can put that energy to good use and also not be tempted to escape. If you think Houdini is the dog for you, come on over and watch him create magic in your life!

BRETT

He’s got mischief up his sleeve but it’s the kind that will amuse you and make you beg for more! He’s just a year old and making the most of his puppyhood before he matures into a fine dog. Brett loves his walks and hops around happily like a bunny greeting everyone he meets. Toys and play time make his day! He can chase several balls at the same time and loves to return them to you because he knows he will get his special hugs and kisses and that all-important belly rub. When you’re tired of playing, you just have to call him and he will place his paws sweetly on your lap and take great delight in all the love and caresses you shower on him. If you stop caressing him, he will gently nudge your hand with his face and remind you to go on. He also thinks he is still a small puppy and will try his best to fit into your lap. Brett came to us from another shelter and we don’t know if he has lived with a family before but he seems to love people although he is not so outgoing with other dogs. So he might probably need to be the only dog at home. If you are looking for a dog who can fill your home with happiness, come on over and shake paws with darling Brett!

BRANDON

It’s a pug. It’s a beagle. It’s a puggle!  Brandon the Superdog has got the best of both worlds. He has been gifted with the Beagle’s high energy, playful nature and friendly personality. From the pug side, he’s got his short-faced good looks, good sense of humor and charm. When you combine all these goodies, you get Brandon, a puggle that is conveniently sized, has a short easy-care coat, loves outdoor activities and gets along well with people and other animals alike. Brandon seems to have passed his basic schooling with flying colors. He has been very good about going potty outside here at the shelter as well as at his previous home. He also responds to ‘sit’. He seems like a perfect candidate for advanced training if needed. While he loves to play, he prefers to stay away from goofy dogs in dog parks. If you are looking for a good running partner, Brandon will keep you in shape. Oh and did we forget to mention, this puggle loves to snuggle! And be petted and kissed. He’s got a lot of loving to give for sure! So come on over and take home a compact package of love and happiness called Brandon.

WHIZ

Whiz is a puppy who will keep you on your toes. A bundle of bountiful energy, she is always on the go. She is extraordinarily alert; her ears cutely perk up when she hears the magic words: ‘treat’, ‘walk’, ‘play’. She loves her toys and absolutely adores playtime! She also seems to enjoy chasing and wrestling with other dogs. Like any growing puppy, Whiz too is in the teething stage and generously offers happy nips and gnaws. But with adequate socialization and training, she will soon learn mouth manners as well as some useful leash lessons. Whiz is a pup who needs plenty of exercise and if you are looking for a running or hiking partner, she will keep you in good shape! So bring the family and other pets over to meet this lively puppy and before you know it, she will whiz straight into your heart and home!

HUNK
Hunk! He is one handsome pup! With a face that can melt your heart and make you go weak in the knees. Well-built, charming and dressed in a stylish suit of tan and white fur, Hunk is the dog of your dreams. He came to us along with his siblings, and while they have found forever homes, Hunk is saving all his love for his forever owner. He loves people and is frequently seen giving them cute high fives. He seems to get along well with his puppy friends too in the adjoining kennels and politely greets them when he meets them on his walks. He is always game for playing, exercising and cuddling. He’s the kind of dog that makes life seem so hunky dory. When you ask him, he enjoys placing his front paws and head sweetly on your lap as you dish out kisses and whisper sweet nothings in his ears. Come on over today, meet this heartthrob, and take home a hunka hunka burning love.

BISCUIT

She’s a perfect example of unconditional love. Biscuit had four of her own kittens to look after when three orphaned kittens came along. Without batting an eyelid, she welcomed them with open paws and nurtured them as her own. Not only her own species, she adores humans too! She’s super sweet, friendly, social and enjoys belly rubs and endless caresses. Being a young kitty, she loves to play and talk to her human. She has a lot of love to give and is looking to make someone very happy. Come on over and find out if that’s you.

CABBIT

Is it a cat? Is it a rabbit? No it’s Cabbit! Hoppity hop she goes looking for mischief and adventure.   Seriously, there can’t be anything cuter than a tailless kitty! Cabbit was one of three orphaned kittens who got adopted by a sweet mama cat and spent two months in a loving foster home. She is affectionate, intelligent, playful and a very special kitty. Without a doubt, you will lose your heart to her. Come meet Cabbit and find out for yourself.

NUGGET

Remember that feeling of being head over heels in love? It’s like that when you meet Nugget. Her eyes have the power to make you go weak in the knees. You will want to hold her, cuddle her and kiss her 24x7. Nugget was one of three orphaned kittens who got adopted by a sweet mama cat and spent two months in a loving foster home. She is now ready to find the love of her life. Will that be you? Come meet Nugget and find out.

MUPPET

He is everything you have ever wanted. He’s affectionate, listens to you and loves to cuddle. His antics can keep you entertained for hours. Muppet was one of three orphaned kittens who got adopted by a sweet mama cat and spent two months in a loving foster home. He might be a tiny fella but boy, does he have a lot of love to give! Come meet him and you will know what we mean.

PIPPIT

Pippit played big brother to his adopted siblings and what a great job he did! Brave and confident, he was always the first one to explore new sights, sounds and places with the others following his lead. He loves his belly rubs and cuddles, and he wishes that play time would last forever. If you are looking for a kitty to fill your heart and home with joy, Pippit is it. Come on over and shake paws with him.

BECKHAM

He loves to play with a ball more than David Beckham does! Our Beckham can chase up to two balls while having another in his mouth all at the same time. What makes his chase even more interesting is the pile of leaves left over from fall. He loves to slide right into the leaves and romp about while sniffing out hidden tennis balls. At 79 pounds and almost three years of age, Beckham is super fit, healthy and lean and has a body that most body builders will die for. His smooth, sleek grey and white coat adds to his handsome aura. Beckham has a constant cute questioning look on his face as if to ask: Can we play now? When are you throwing the next ball? Are you really tired already? Is it really time to go back in? Beckham will do well in a house with a yard that offers him ample space to exercise and play. He might make a good running partner as well. He also needs an owner who has previous experience with pit bulls and who can train him to be the best he can be. If you think you fit the bill, get the family down to meet Beckham and you might end up being his biggest fan!

AUTUMN

She’s the best you can get this season! Autumn’s orange brindle coat also matches fall colors! This sprightly, young girl has come through a difficult phase in her life where she was kept in a crate all day long and never got the chance to experience the awesome outdoors or a chance to meet the friendly neighbors and shake a paw with another dog. But now that she is here safe and happy, she enjoys meeting people and rubbing noses with her other canine pals. This compact 25-pounder is fully grown and is a reservoir of energy. Autumn can run like the wind in the play yard, just so happy to be out and tasting her freedom. Once she has expended all that energy, she will come to you, put her paws on your lap calmly and have a deep non-verbal conversation with you while you caress her and bestow all your love on her.  What she needs is a loving family (with older kids), a calm environment, patient owners, freedom to do doggie stuff and a second chance at her forever home. If you think you can make life always seem like Spring and Summer to Autumn, come on over and take this bundle of love home.

ALAN

With a no-nonsense name like Alan, here’s a dog who is sensible and pretty chilled out. No doggie drama or shenanigans from this fella. At three years of age and 65 pounds, Alan is a handsome dog with the pretty Catahoula leopard pattern on his fur. All we know about Alan’s history is that he came to us from Tennessee and he already had one eye missing. He sees well with his remaining eye and has no vision problems. If you look closely, you will notice the special blue speck that gives his eye a sparkle. We don’t know the how and why of his past, but he is definitely looking for a bright future with his new family. Alan is super calm and patient and walks very well on his leash. He is observant and likes to watch people and life around him. Which sounds like he would make a great picnic or beach buddy. He sits when you ask him to and enjoys being petted and loved. Doesn’t that sound like the perfect dog for your family? If you think so too, come on over and meet amiable Alan!
